CNN —Authorities have recovered the body of a fifth victim in the Baltimore bridge collapse five weeks ago, officials said Wednesday. A 213-million-pound cargo vessel slammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, crippling the structure and killing six workers repairing potholes on it. The six construction workers were immigrants from Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico and Guatemala. “Maryland State Police investigators along with officers from the Maryland Transportation Authority Police and the FBI responded to the scene and recovered the body of a fifth construction worker inside a red truck,” he added. Attorneys representing the families of two deceased workers and a victim who survived the fall have started their own investigation.

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (AP) — Scout Motors celebrated the start of construction on its $2 billion electric SUV plant in South Carolina on Thursday not with a line of people in suits with shovels but with a nod to the company's gasoline-powered past. People are leaving the Rust Belt and the snow and want to come here where there's economic freedom,” Republican South Carolina Gov. Scout Motors made gasoline-powered vehicles for about 20 years when it was owned by International Harvester. The Volkswagen-owned Scout Motors enters a growing, but uncertain U.S. market. But you have to plan without those things,” Scout Motors CEO Scott Keogh said.

Some thieves are stealing vehicles, from cars to backhoes and driving them into stores that they want to rob. Retailers from Target to Home Depot have talked a lot lately about theft, though the extent of the problem is unclear. AdvertisementSome thieves who target retailers are stealing vehicles and smashing them through storefronts in a twist on retail theft known as "ram raiding." But some thieves aren't looking to steal merchandise at all: Instead, they steal ATMs inside of stores to break into them and steal the cash. But gauging the real impact of retail theft on retailers' stores and broader business is tough.

Uncle Sam provides shaky base for Caterpillar

The $500 billion U.S. infrastructure spending bill, passed in late 2021, helped lift the firm’s third-quarter profit 41% from a year ago. As with other sharp pullbacks after government-supported pandemic spending, Caterpillar will prove that counting on federal aid isn’t a viable business model. And the construction firms that order from Caterpillar appeared to step back, with the company's backlog of deliveries falling $2.6 billion in the third quarter. The U.S. CHIPS Act set aside $39 billion to help build semiconductor factories, leaving more money for construction firms and, in turn, Caterpillar. Umpleby may be benefitting from Uncle Sam now, but before long Caterpillar will have to fend for itself.

For RwandAir CEO Yvonne Manzi Makolo, the problem of connectivity presents the “biggest challenge” to the African aviation industry. Pascal Pavani / AFP via Getty ImagesSolutionsBut solutions are touching down, starting with the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM). First proposed in 2018, if implemented the policy would create a single market for African aviation, facilitating the free movement of people, goods, and services. What is missing is the willingness of states to really implement it.”There is hope for a bright new future in African aviation. Because of scale, they can then open up the African continent a lot more.
To report this story, Reuters contacted more than 300 former Tesla employees who had worked at the company over the past nine years and were involved in developing its self-driving system. The company requires car owners to grant permission on the cars’ touchscreens before Tesla collects their vehicles’ data. Reuters found that Tesla employees shared clips that captured sensitive and embarrassing personal moments. Tesla’s own data labelers initially worked in the San Francisco Bay area, including the office in San Mateo. According to several ex-employees, some labelers shared screenshots, sometimes marked up using Adobe Photoshop, in private group chats on Mattermost, Tesla’s internal messaging system.
REUTERS/Michaela RehleFeb 28 (Reuters) - Union workers at four Caterpillar Inc (CAT.N) U.S. facilities have threatened to strike for wage increases, improved safety measures and better healthcare benefits once a six-year labor contract expires this week. "We've been losing every contract for decades - the 2017 contract was nowhere near what we needed," the statement read. In January, union workers at the four Caterpillar facilities voted almost unanimously to authorize a strike, according to one local union's Facebook page. However, the Irving, Texas-based company said on its website that it will "continue to operate our facilities" with management and contract workers. A short supply of workers, experts said, has given unions bargaining power to negotiate better contracts.

REUTERS/Munsif VengattilKOCHI, India Nov 28 (Reuters) - As many as 36 police were injured in clashes with protesters in India's southern state of Kerala who were demanding the release of a person arrested during a demonstration against a $900-million port project of the Adani Group, officials said. The location of the port on India's southern tip is seen as key to winning business from ports in Dubai, Singapore and Sri Lanka. Over the weekend, protesters blocked Adani's construction vehicles from entering the port, despite a court order for work to resume, prompting the arrest of many of them. Police attacked the protesters, among whom were some priests, said a clerical official, Eugine H. Pereira, the vicar general of the archdiocese.
Cesidio Di Ciacca bought his ancestral village in Italy in 2013 and turned it into a business. Many former residents settled in Scotland, as the Di Ciacca family did. After buying the home, Di Ciacca went on to own the entire village and run it as a business. "One year into the renovation, I started to get itchy and look at how I could buy I Ciacca," Di Ciacca said. Di Ciacca's wife, Selina Di Ciacca, suggested they make it a place of learning again.
